Boğaziçi University provides financial support for graduate students through various channels and in various forms. These are briefly described below.

Assistantships

Each department has a number of assistantship slots which are primarily awarded to that department's graduate students on merit basis. The salary associated with these positions is set and paid by the State. The responsibilities, which carry around 16-20 hour per week work load, include, i) teaching support to undergraduate/graduate courses, ii) research support to faculty members, iii) administrative support to department’s various activities.Information on number and timing of position availability, when and how to apply, the evaluation process, can all be obtained from the associated academic departments.

BAP Researcher Positions

Boğaziçi University Scientific Research Fund (BU/BAP) awards research projects to individual faculty members or groups of faculty members. These projects may include funding to support one researcher per project. Such researchers are selected directly by the faculty member responsible for the related BAP project, but are expected to be graduate students at the University. Information on number and timing of position availability can be obtained from individual faculty members.

Fellowships

Many foundations, NGO’s, public and private institutions (including the organizations listed below) provide fellowships to BU/FBE graduate students. Further information on availability, timing and funding of fellowships may be obtained at the Financial Aid Office web site.

Travel and Conference Support by BU/FBE

Institute of Graduate Studies in Science and Engineering provides travel support to assist students in the presentation of their research at a national or international conference. The amount of the support vary with maximum 1,000 TL for national/international conferences in Turkey and 2,000 TL for international conferences abroad.Information on availability, when and how to apply, can all be obtained from this document.

Travel and Conference Support by Other Sources

Boğaziçi University Foundation (BUVAK), Boğaziçi University Alumni Association (BUMED), Boğaziçi University Research Fund (BAP), State Scientific and Technological Research Institute (TUBITAK) also provide travel and conference support to graduate students.Information on availability, when and how to apply, regarding the other sources can all be obtained from the relevant institutions. Support provided by BAP is project based (i.e. travel/conference support is actually provided to an ongoing BAP project) and has to be applied through the faculty member responsible for the project.

Awards

• BAP Dissertation Award

  Boğaziçi University Scientific Research Fund (BAP) awards 2,000 TL to the best dissertation every year. Information on when and how to apply, can all be obtained from the BAP Office.

• BUVAK Publication Award

  BUVAK awards graduate students in Assistantship positions for their publications indexed by the SCIE, SCI and SSCI. The amount is determined by BUVAK. Information on amount, when and how to apply, can all be obtained from the BUVAK Office.
